There's no doubt that smoking is a global health problem. Smokers are 25 times more likely to contract lung cancer compared with non-smokers and up to 3 times more likely to suffer a heart attack. Half of smokers die prematurely as a direct result of their habit - 4 million a year worldwide. Yet for those who want to quit smoking, all the scary statistics and other undoubtedly rational reasons as to why they should do so are often insufficient to tip the scales in favour of healthy living.

The problem is not that smokers are dying of ignorance. Most understand the harm their habit is doing to their health. The problem is more often a lack of congruence - the internal conflict between a part that still wants to smoke and the part that wants to stop. Help Myself Hypnosis 'Stop Smoking' and 'Stay Stopped' will help you resolve that conflict so that both parts work together to kick the habit and common side-effects of smoking cessation such as 'grumpiness' and weight gain are minimised.

Stop Smoking now!

The Times newspaper recently (May 2007) quoted a 95% success rate for hypnotherapy in helping people to give up smoking and an extensive research project published in the Journal of Applied Psychology (and reported in the New Scientist by Robert Mathews) concluded that

Quote :

"Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking"

This will come as no surprise to many of my customers who have been able to successfully change the habit of a lifetime in a few self-hypnosis sessions.

Customer Feedback

"My dear Susan B McIntyre

Let me remind you of my case. I smoked for the sake of smoking so much so I could not pass a cigarette without smoking it….. I was afraid to face the affects of stopping and I half believed I was beyond help. I hoped that my one chance of giving up was Hypnotherapy. Well, it took two sessions and now its six weeks and I have NOT SMOKED!!!! THANK YOU-HOO! How can I put into writing how grateful I am to you for your help? OK, so I paid you for your help but it is worth every penny.

Sincere thanks and best wishes"

"Just a little note to confirm that between us I think 'We've cracked it'!!!

It is now five weeks since I smoked my last cigarette! While it still needed a lot of will-power during the first few days, I am convinced that it was the hypnotherapy that this time made me think positively and gave me the determination to succeed.

After being a 30-40 a day smoker for well over 30 years, I now find I 'fancy a fag' less and less as each day passes. And I can feel the benefit already. After trying all sorts of ways to give up in the past, from so-called 'Guaranteed Herbal Cures' to the Cold Turkey treatment and only managing to last a couple of days at the most, hypnotherapy and your help appear to have at last made a NON smoker of me!

Even the wife can't believe it! She's being trying to get me to Give Up Smoking for nearly 30 years!

Again, very many thanks"

"Having averaged some 20 cigarettes a day for the past 20 odd years, I was sceptical about your ability to help me "kick the habit"! I had tried, in the past to give up smoking so had experienced every withdrawal trick in the book.

And then along came Sue! You certainly hit the spot and not even the odd stressful situation has made me weaken by reaching for a 'fag'. Now, after almost three months I proudly announce to my family and friends - ' I am a NON-SMOKER!' Thank you for your help and for making this usually difficult task so very, very easy."

The main difficulty for would-be non-smokers is that whilst they consciously know all the logical reasons for giving up smoking and may even have a smoking related illness, something that clearly defies logic keeps them smoking anyway. This 'something' comes from the subconscious part of the mind, which deals not in logical rational language but with images, memories and conditioned responses such as habits.

Self-hypnosis is unique amongst smoking cessation methods in that instead of focussing on rational thought processes, it allows better access to the sub-conscious mind and offers the opportunity to create visual images and language forms that the sub-conscious mind easily understands. Once the sub-conscious mind understands what the conscious mind already knows, the conflict is resolved and stopping smoking and staying stopped become very much easier.

These two self-hypnosis sessions are different to the other Help Myself Hypnosis CDs/MP3s in that they are each recorded as only one track. They are also very different to each other. The differences are self-explanatory really - one addresses the issue of stopping smoking and the other enhances the commitment to staying stopped.

Stop Smoking

Research suggests that smokers are more likely to quit the smoking habit when health concerns are a motivating factor and my self-hypnosis 'Stop Smoking' CD/MP3 takes this as its primary focus. It's one of my favourite pieces of work (because it DOES work!) and is based on what hypnotherapists call a 'sandwiched metaphor' - you'll realise why when you hear it. Because the sub-conscious mind understands language visually in images, metaphors (or stories) are used extensively in hypnotherapy and this is a particularly elegant example. 'Stop Smoking' is just over half an hour long and I suggest you listen to it initially and then back it up by listening to the slightly shorter 'Stay Stopped' on a more regular basis.

Stay Stopped

'Stay Stopped' is shorter (than 'Stop Smoking') so that it is easier for you to play more frequently in order to address the habit element involved in smoking. Habits are generated through the process of learning

1. Unconscious incompetence - you don't know that you can't smoke
2. Conscious incompetence - you know that when you try to smoke you cough and splutter
and are generally not very good at it!
3. Conscious competence - you know that you can smoke but you have to think carefully
about getting it just right.
4. Unconscious competence - you just do it!

and re-enforced through repetition. Because of the way the brain is organised, it's not possible to 'unlearn' redundant habits; we can only learn new behaviour to replace them. 'Stay Stopped' supports that process and your decision to remain a non-smoker.
