The Battle of the Bulge
If you're still fighting the
battle of the bulge you're probably aware that the person
you are really fighting is yourself. Whilst part of you is
genuinely committed to healthy eating, the other part sabotages
your good intentions time and time again. Consciously you
know all the logical reasons for losing weight but something
just keeps you reaching for that bar of chocolate or biscuit
tin :(( This 'something' comes from the subconscious part
of your mind that established 'emotional eating' as a pattern
in childhood, so that over the years it has become an unconscious
habit.
When a newborn baby cries, it
is usually cuddled and fed so that love and food become intrinsically
associated. This conditioning as an infant can extend right
through to adulthood and is re-enforced whenever a cut knee
is soothed with a cake, the dental visit is rewarded with
a lollipop or the discomfort of a vaccination is distracted
with a sugar lump. Because self-hypnosis allows better access
to the sub-conscious part of the mind where these conditioned
responses are stored, it offers the opportunity to re-evaluate
the erroneous assumption that food can somehow take away pain
and discomfort. Once the sub-conscious mind understands what
the conscious mind already knows, the conflict is resolved
and the commitment to healthy eating becomes very much simpler.
Diets alone
are not the answer
There is plenty of evidence
to suggest that diets alone just don't work. In fact the unpalatable
truth (supported by medical studies across the world) is that
those who follow diets alone have a slim chance of keeping
off the weight they have struggled so hard to lose. Typically,
two thirds of dieters put all the lost weight back on within
a year and even more depressingly, researchers at the University
of California found that 83 percent of dieters eventually
end up heavier than they were when they started! The prognosis
changes dramatically however, when hypnosis is added to the
equation with significantly improved results sustained over
a much longer period of time.

A meta-analysis
across multiple studies comparing the results of adding
hypnosis to weight loss treatment, showed that adding
hypnosis increased weight loss by an average of 97% during
treatment and even more significantly, increased the effectiveness
POST TREATMENT by over 146%.

In a nine-week
study of two weight management groups (one using hypnosis
and one not using hypnosis), the hypnosis group continued
to get results in the two-year follow-up, while the non-hypnosis
group showed no further results

L. Effectiveness of hypnosis as an adjunct to behavioural

These two self-hypnosis sessions
are different to the other Help Myself Hypnosis CDs/MP3s in
that they are each recorded as only one track. They are also
very different to each other. The differences are self-explanatory
really - one kick starts the weight loss process and the other
supports your commitment to maintaining a healthy weight.
Lose Weight
This session is constructed
as a sandwiched metaphor. (No, nothing to do with food! You'll
realise why when you listen to it :)) It appeals directly
to the subconscious mind to resolve the conflict caused by
the Battle of the Bulge. Whilst there can be no magic or immediate
solution to the need to lose weight, this session will help
you get on track and move towards your goals with clarity,
congruence and enthusiasm. 'Lose Weight' is just over half
an hour long and I suggest you listen to it initially and
then back it up by listening to the slightly shorter 'Weight
Control' on a more regular basis.
Weight Control
'Weight Control' is deliberately
shorter (than 'Lose Weight') so that it is easier for you
to play more frequently. Think of it like knocking a nail
into a piece of wood - the more often you hit it, the quicker
it gets in there! This session will motivate and encourage
you to stay on track because (as I'm sure you already know)
the longer you stay on track, the more your new eating habits
are ingrained and the easier it becomes to control your weight.
